Green Key certification process is a comprehensive five-stage journey that guides tourism establishments from initial application through to full certification and ongoing compliance. The process is designed to be rigorous yet supportive, ensuring that every certified establishment meets the high standards of sustainability that Green Key represents.

Process 2022–2026

The current Green Key certification process valid until 1 October 2026. Includes a one-year certificate validity, on-site audits in Year 1, Year 2, and every three years thereafter, and assessment by a National Jury or external auditor.

The new certification process taking effect from 1 October 2026. Features a two-year certificate validity, third-party audits, surveillance activities, and a Certification Body for independent decisions. Includes transition period guidance for 2026–2028.
